GROUP LESSONS - What you need to know

-Classes are for skaters 4 years and older.   We do not offer adult beginner group lessons.

-Classes are held at Korpi Ice Rink, on the campus of Bayonne High School.

-The lesson hour consists of one 1/2 hour direct group instruction & one 1/2 hour of monitored practice time.

-There are no make-ups, no credits, and no refunds for missed classes due to vacations, sickness, traffic, transportation delays, school functions, or inclement weather.    Bayonne Blades maintains a no refund policy.

-Skaters must own proper figure skates.  Expandable skates and double blades are not permitted.

-Skate rental is not available, nor permitted.

-All skaters must wear a multi-sport, ski or hockey helmet, as well as gloves.

- Practice time is optional.  Not every beginner will be comfortable on their own during practice time for the first few weeks of the session.  Assistants will be there for support, but cannot give all of their attention to one skater alone.

-Class assignments are subject to change.

-Not every student thrives in a group setting.  You may be advised that your child needs private instruction.

-Skaters must attend class on the day chosen when registered.

-Skaters must be registered prior to the first day of class.  Registration will not be taken at the rink.

-A parent or guardian must be present and in the building during class time.

-Player’s benches/boxes are for Bayonne Blades skaters and instructors only.  No parents, friends, siblings, spectators allowed.

-Only registered skaters are allowed on the ice.

-If your class is cancelled, you will be issued a pro-rated credit.

-If your class is cancelled due to lack of registrants for your particular level, you will receive a full refund.

-Skaters will be notified through email if class is cancelled.  Also, this website homepage will be updated with cancellation details.

-Bayonne Blades reserves the right to obtain and use photos taken for use in advertisement and promotion.

What you need to bring

All students must have their own figure skates to participate

All beginners should wear proper figure skates, sized by a professional, at a true skate shop.

Ample ankle support and sharpened blades are essential for these Learn-To-Skate lessons.  Double blades & expandable boots are not permitted. Since every skate manufacturer sizes differently, and new skate blades will need to be sharpened (they do not come sharpened in the box), we strongly discourage ordering online and from purchasing skates from "big box" stores.

To make a skate fitting appointment at our suggested shop, Skate Pro, located inside the Staten Island Skating Pavilion, please call: 540-520-8160 or email skatepronyc@gmail.com.  Skate Pro will fit you with the proper equipment for your skater's level and sharpen your new skates as well.  All new skates must be sharpened before first use.

Purchasing online or from big box stores is highly discouraged.  Expandable skates are not permitted.

Four-year-old skaters MUST begin on figure skates.

All beginners must have their own helmet, gloves and winter gear

Helmets and gloves are mandatory for all students. Multisport, ski or hockey helmets are recommended. Clothing should be warm & allow for easy movement.
