Bayonne Blades Skate School students become members of Learn to Skate USA's progressive basic skills curriculum for children ages 4 and older.
Solid skill development, based on the ABC's of basic athleticism—Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed, allow our skaters to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.
The lesson hour consists of one 1/2 hour direct group instruction & one 1/2 hour of monitored practice time.
Practice time for beginners is optional. Not every beginner will be comfortable on their own during practice time for the first few weeks of the session. Assistants will be there for support, but cannot give all of their attention to one skater alone.
Please note: there are no make-ups, no credits, and no refunds for missed classes due to vacations, sickness, traffic, transportation delays, school functions, or inclement weather.

All beginners should wear proper figure skates, sized by a professional, at a true skate shop.
Ample ankle support and sharpened blades are essential for these Learn-To-Skate lessons. Double blades & expandable boots are not permitted. Since every skate manufacturer sizes differently, and new skate blades will need to be sharpened (they do not come sharpened in the box), we strongly discourage ordering online and from purchasing skates from "big box" stores.
We recommend purchasing skates at Skate Pro Inc., located inside the Staten Island Skating Pavilion, at 3080 Arthur Kill Road, Staten Island, NY. To make a fitting appointment, please call 540-520-8160. Skate Pro is currently open by appointment only.
Four- and five-year-old skaters, who aspire to play hockey, should begin on figure skates.
Helmets and gloves are mandatory for all beginners. Multisport, ski or hockey helmets are recommended. Clothing should be warm & allow for easy movement.
