Learn To Skate USA

This program, endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US SpeedSkating, offers something for everyone— from the first steps on the ice to mastering advanced techniques. Solid skill development based on the ABCs of basic athleticism—Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed. A progressive system that, upon completion of the program, allows skaters to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.  Classes offered include Snow Plow Sam, Basics 1-6, Freeskate 1-6 & Hockey 1-4.

Group Lessons:

  • For the aspiring figure skater or hockey player, ages 5 & older.
  • Classes are held at the Richard Korpi Ice Rink on the grounds of Bayonne High School.
  • 1/2 hour direct instruction & 1/2 hour monitored practice time per week.
  • Placement is at the discretion of the Director.
  • Skaters must provide their own skates and helmets. SKATE RENTAL IS NOT AVAILABLE.  We strongly suggest getting fitted for skates at JT Sports on Staten Island. Every skate manufacturer sizes differently, and your skater needs skates with support.  We recommend that all beginners wear proper figure skates. (Hockey students should start on figure skates before switching to hockey skates if they are 6 years old or younger.)
  • There are NO MAKE-UP CLASSES. The skater must attend class on the day chosen
  • Multi-sport Helmets and gloves are mandatory for all beginners. Ski & hockey helmets are also acceptable.  Hockey students should wear a helmet with a cage.
  • Clothing should be warm & comfortable. We suggest snow pants or snow suits for the little ones.
  • All skaters must be registered PRIOR to the first day of class they plan on attending. On the first day of a new session, arrive at least 20 minutes early to check-in.
  • If you are interested in joining a class mid-session, please email BayonneBlades@gmail.com.
  • Payment is due in full prior to the student taking the ice. We accept checks and cash.
  • Only registered students are allowed on the ice during skate school hours. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN ELIMINATION OF THE REGISTERED STUDENT FROM THE SKATE SCHOOL PROGRAM.
  • In the event of a snow storm, please call our voicemail at 201-437-8602.
